Manuel Ugarte is going to England today for a medical before moving from Paris St. Germain to Manchester United.
Last night, the clubs agreed on a fee after United’s Jason Wilcox went to Paris to finish talks. There was also Matt Hargreaves in Paris with Wilcox. He is in charge of negotiating with players.
The Uruguayan player will get £42 million plus an extra £8.4 million in add-ons.
When Scott McTominay finally agreed to join Napoli for £26 million, United could finally make their move. At the same time, Hannibal Mejbri joined Burnley for up to £9.5 million.
McTominay is set to leave United today and will likely go to Italy to finalize his deal. Mejbri had part of his test last night.
The first two games of the new Ligue 1 season for PSG did not have Ugarte in them because he has made it clear that he wants to join United.
If Erik ten Hag signs the defender, it will be his fifth signing of the summer.
He has so far brought in Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui, and Joshua Zirkzee.
France’s top team won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France last season, and Ugarte played in 37 of those games.
He had played 85 times for Sporting over the course of two years. Before that, he started his career in Portuguese clubs by playing for Famalicao.
Also, Ugarte has been named 22 times for Uruguay’s major international team.
The player will join the team, while McTominay is leaving. McTominay has spent his whole club career at Old Trafford, starting out in the United youth system when he was five years old.
McTominay’s last game for United was last Saturday, when they lost 2-1 at Brighton.
