At Euro 2024 on Sunday night, Hungary led by Dominik Szoboszlai defeated Scotland 1-0. Andy Robertson’s team was the opposing team.
Ten minutes into extra time, a goal by Kevin Csoboth sealed the victory for the Liverpool duo in the Group A match at Stuttgart, where they had each captained their nation.
Hungary came closest to breaking the deadlock during a goalless first half when Willi Orban headed Szoboszlai’s disguised, dinked free-kick against the crossbar.
A collision that resulted in Hungary’s Barnabas Varga being stretchered off and sent to the hospital overshadowed the second period, which seemed to be going by without any points being recorded as well.
A minute into extra time, Szoboszlai’s attempt from within the area was saved, only moments before teammate Csoboth smacked the post.
Scotland’s Grant Hanley was stopped on the opposite end, and Csoboth sealed the victory with a counterattack involving Szoboszlai in the final minute of play.
Hungary will now finish third in the group and will have to wait to find out if their three points will be enough to advance them to the round of sixteen, while Scotland will be eliminated.
