After making what appeared to be an offensive gesture after a Saudi Pro League game, Cristiano Ronaldo is apparently going to be the subject of an investigation.
After Al-Nassr defeated Al-Shabab, Cristiano Ronaldo seemed to make a lewd gesture after the home fans made fun of him by chanting “Messi.”
According to reports, the Saudi FA may look into Ronaldo for the incident.
Ronaldo scored his team’s first goal in the 3-2 victory, bringing his season total to 22 goals.
Although the incident was not captured on camera, some Saudi commentators suggested Ronaldo ought to face consequences. The national football federation (SAFF) has reportedly launched an investigation into the incident, but there has been no official response, according to the Saudi daily Asharq al-Awsat.
The largest test is in front of the disciplinary committee. We’ll have to wait and see,” well-known Saudi author and TV broadcaster Waleed Al Farraj stated on X.
No matter how well-known you are, everything has its boundaries. The big leagues operate in this manner.
Al-Nassr could not be reached for comment at this time.
Al-Shabab, who field players like former Atletico Madrid midfielder Yannick Carrasco and former Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic, faced the 39-year-old’s Al-Nassr on Sunday. On minute 21, Ronaldo scored the game’s first goal from the penalty spot, but just before halftime, Carrasco’s spot shot brought his team back. After the restart, Talisca gave the visitors the lead back, and the Brazilian was once more needed to give Al Nassr a late victory after Carlos had equalised for the hosts. At the final siren, Ronaldo praised his teammates after the 3-2 victory had gained three points. The crowd’s chants of Lionel Messi’s name, his former opponent in the El Classico, seemed to annoy the Portugal international, though. In answer, Ronaldo put his palm to his ear and made a motion towards his crotch that appeared to be directed at the spectator fans. The Saudi publication Asharq al-Awsat reported that the national football federation (SAFF) has since launched an investigation into the event, citing a report from The Telegraph.
Ronaldo, 39, has previously been the target of similar criticism. After a 2-0 league loss to Al-Hilal in April of last year, he seemed to touch his genitalia on the way to the dugout.
He threw away an Al-Hilal scarf that was thrown at him from the stands earlier this month as he was heading towards the tunnel following Al-Nassr’s 2-0 loss in the Riyadh Season Cup final. He had scooped it up and put it in his shorts.
The Portuguese star, who is now leading the league in goals scored, is in his second season in Saudi Arabia and has continued to have a spectacular goal scoring record.
With his penalty on Sunday, he now has 22 points from 20 games this season.
But in the league standings, Al-Nassr is still four points behind the unbeaten Al-Hilal.
