People know that Roy Keane is a very private guy. Fans have been able to see what he and his wife, Theresa, are up to since he started an Instagram account last year.
They bought a beautiful home in Woodbridge after putting their Tudor house on the market in 2015. He used to be captain of the Republic of Ireland.
They have five kids together: Shannon, Caragh, Aidan, Leah, and Alanna. They have been married for more than 20 years.
They got married at the Church of Our Lady Crowned in Keane’s hometown of Mayfield, Co. Cork, in 1997. They met in 1992 when he was playing for Nottingham Forest.
The 50-year-old man talked about how he met Theresa for the first time: “I saw a beautiful girl in a club in town.” Theresa was born in Nottingham, but her family is from Ireland. Her name was Theresa Doyle, but she didn’t say it.
“She had a steady boyfriend and didn’t seem impressed by the great football player Roy Keane at all.” I think my image was a downer for many reasons.
“We ran into each other around Nottingham every once in a while.” Some of her friends told me that Theresa worked as an assistant at a dentist’s office. After her relationship ended, she finally gave in, and we went out together. I fell in love.”
In an interview with David Walsh for the Sunday Times in the early 2000s, he talked about his wife, Theresa, calling her his “rock.” Usually, the sports star keeps his secret.
He told her, “To be fair to her, she has been a rock in my life. I don’t talk about her in public.” Very clever. She understands me better than I understand myself.
She doesn’t like everything about the package, that’s for sure. She knows I don’t have a crown on my head. That’s what she likes about me. She also knows that I’m not the meanest person in the world.
Even though Keane had a great career as a player, he wrote in his book that his favorite thing to do was spend time with his family.
He said that after Manchester United won the Champions League in 1999, he “longed to go home to Theresa and the kids.”
They told him they wanted him to go back to work after only two months, even though he laughed that he wanted to spend more time with his family after he retired.
“When I first stopped, my plan was for us to take some family trips and live like the Waltons,” he said.
“We’re all going to hang out and take a walk in the park. After a month or two, they didn’t have the same plans as me, so I think they missed me going to work.”
“I got offered the job at Sunderland, and I was away on a family holiday and my family were looking at me… not saying it directly but going we kind of enjoy your company but not too much of it so when the job came back up they were saying you should go for it.”
Roy shocked his friends early last year when he made an Instagram account.
The man from Cork has been posting pictures of his fancy home on social media to show off the beautiful property, which has a big yard and a pool.
The Manchester United great also shared a picture of himself with his grandson and wrote, “Just like his grandad.” This was a rare look into his family life.
The job was a nice change from Roy’s tough attitude that he usually shows on the field and TV as a sports commentator.
Roy has posted pictures of his full-sized pool in his backyard and his beautiful reddish-orange brick house with white doors, windows, and well-kept grounds on Instagram since he joined.
A wicker-style coffee table and a red and cream rug are in his living room. He has brown leather chairs there.
