The “Lionel Messi rule” that Barcelona uses for training has been copied by Inter Miami.
Following his release from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, Messi joined MLS team Inter Miami. In the three months since then, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 11 goals in 14 games.
The Argentine scored the game-winning free kick in extra time on his first game for the club. He also led Miami to their first prize, the Leagues Cup.
Even with Messi’s help, the team still couldn’t make it to the MLS Cup playoffs; Miami placed 14th in the Eastern Conference.
Maimi’s MLS season is over, and defender Edison Azcona talked about how it’s been living with Messi.
The 19-year-old midfielder talked about how he and his Miami friends make sure Messi doesn’t get hurt during practice.
To Infobae, Azcona said, “Everyone knows that we’re not going to try to hurt [Messi].” One tries to defend themselves, but they are more careful this time. When we play games with each other, we don’t let him join in. We protect him, but we’re careful. “Nobody works very hard at it.”
Barcelona had a rule like this. Messi got 672 goals in 778 games there and became one of the best players of all time.
Jean-Claire Todibo, from Nice and France, was one of the players who had to follow the order in training. He played five times for the Catalan giants.
For example, Todibo told the German newspaper Bild while he was on loan at Schalke, “We all knew that he couldn’t get hurt.”
When Messi was training, he was carefully guarded. There was a lot I learned from Messi. I even hit him a few times, but I was careful not to hurt him.
