Harvey Elliott of Liverpool has attacked the supporters of England for jeering former Reds midfielder Jordan Henderson during the team’s 1-0 friendly victory against Australia.

When Henderson was replaced in the second half of Friday’s match at Wembley, some members of the audience heckled him. It was the 33-year-old’s first appearance in England since he moved from Liverpool to the Saudi Arabian team Al Ettifaq during the summer.

Elliot responded to the jeers directed at Henderson by telling PA (via Liverpool Echo) that the incident had pained him much because the veteran star had been an inspiration to him.

“The jeering is disturbing, as Hendo is a great inspiration to many people worldwide, not only myself.”

The young Liverpool player lauded Henderson’s significant achievements to the team and the nation over his remarkable career. Elliott thinks that because of his achievements, the midfield player should receive better treatment from England fans.

It is unpleasant to witness what he has done for England and English football. It’s his choice, it’s his profession. We as a country must rally around and assist these athletes. Although it wasn’t pleasant, Hendo is unfazed, I’m sure of it.

He is a person and athlete with an optimistic outlook. All he wants is to pursue his career to the fullest. Everybody is supporting him.

Jordan Henderson made a significant impact in his twelve years at Anfield.

Elliott said Henderson wouldn’t be badly affected by the jeers because of his strong mentality. However, it is evident that the Liverpool attacker believes that on Friday night, recognition is more appropriate than taunts for his old comrade.

The manager of England, Gareth Southgate, jumped to Henderson’s defense as well, calling the fans’ reaction “illogical.” When Kenny Dalglish was manager at Anfield in the summer of 2011, the veteran arrived. He has had a significant impact at Anfield over his twelve years as a Red. He has won every major club title available in his 492 games for the team.
