Following a shot by James Rodrigez from a cross from Rafael Santos Borre in the 35th minute, Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay fell behind in the first half. But immediately after the break, Mathias Olivera’s header from a corner gave them an equalizer.
Five minutes later, a Mateus Uribe goal off another Borre pass gave Colombia the lead again. However, they were deprived of victory when, in the 87th minute, goalie Camilo Vargas was dismissed for a second yellow card, having fouled Maximiliano Araujo and awarded a penalty.
Nunez’s spot attempt was not stopped by Alvaro Montero, who replaced Vargas in goal after winger Jhon Arias was substituted.
