Barcelona didn’t have their first-choice left back, center back, two central midfielders, striker, or right side for the first half of their game against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Sometimes, like when Andreas Christensen and Alejandro Balde were taken out of the game to rest, these changes were done on purpose. Other times, though, they had to happen because of injuries.
Five of Barcelona’s players had never played in a Champions League game before, but they were on the team that had to win. Three of them have never even played in a game for the club, and the other three have only played in one.
But in the end, things worked out for the Catalans because goals from Ferran Torres and Fermin Lopez helped them win all three points. But things weren’t always easy. Even though they won, the hurt Joao Felix got in the second half was the main topic of conversation.
The Portuguese player had to be taken off because he hurt his knee. Marc Guiu came on to make his UCL start and replaced him.
Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski are already out, so Ferran Torres is the only first-team forward for Barcelona’s game against Real Madrid this weekend. However, it looks like things are not as bad as they seem.
Felix wrote on Instagram that he is okay after his injury update: “I am fine! It was only a scratch! It’s time to rest and get ready for the next game.Since he joined on loan, the forward has been one of the best players for the team, hitting three goals and setting up three more. He has been very important to the team because he creates chances and works hard, even when he can’t turn them into goals.
Since El Clasico is coming up soon, Barcelona will be hoping Felix is at his best for the game and can score again.
