The night ended in the book for Bellingham, his Sunderland teammate Luke O’Nien, Tom Holmes, and Carlton Morris of Luton.

However, Sunderland’s night came after they managed to withstand a taxing first-half analysis by the Hatters, who ought to have led at halftime.

Chris Rigg, 17, gave the visitors the lead ten minutes into the second half after the Town failed to capitalize.Eight minutes later, Elijah Adebayo headed his first of the season, making things even more difficult for Luton, but Mundle’s goal in the 66th minute gave the Black Cats the victory.

Dan Neil’s goal with one minute remaining put Sunderland, who are aiming for their second away victory in four days following their success against Hull on Sunday, first into the attack.

Thomas Kaminski, a Belgian goalie, stopped Alan Browne’s close-range goalbound back-heel with a leg seconds later.

After defeating derby rivals Watford 3-0 on Saturday, Luton managed to overcome that nervous phase and came very near with a strike from Morris.
This was all-action, breathless stuff, and halfway through the half, Sunderland was under tremendous pressure.

In a matter of seconds, McGuinness headed again after Doughty’s subsequent corner, but this time the ball struck the bar.

Morris headed home another Doughty corner deep into first-half added time, giving Luton the impression that they had won, but Jordan Clark, a Town midfielder, was clearly offside.

Two minutes into the second half, Clark’s cross from the right found the big striker, and Patterson saved Adebayo’s close-range header to keep the score tied.

However, Sunderland took the lead at the 55-minute mark.

When Browne’s header sent Rigg running and Tahith Chong lost control, Luton, for once, relaxed their hold in midfield.

The teenager turned and hit a low left-footed shot as he was moving to the left of the field.

However, Luton equalized after eight minutes. Once more, the man Doughty was at the center of the action, launching a right-wing free kick.

Morris met it just past the far post and volleyed across goal for Adebayo to head home.

Sunderland grabbed back the lead six minutes later. Chong claimed he had been fouled, ref Tom Nield disagreed, and Neil set up Mundle for a run across the box that ended with a low finish.
