Trent Kone-Doherty, a young player for Liverpool, was observed working out with the first squad on Thursday.

Since Kone-Doherty arrived on Merseyside last summer, anticipation has grown. The Irishman, who is still only 17, appears to have increased his game this season.

And based on a video that Football Daily uploaded this afternoon, it appears like Jurgen Klopp is very taken aback by the flying winger.

Although Kone-Doherty has previously trained with the first team, a debut seems more likely than ever with the crucial match against Everton just two days away.

Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo are back, so Klopp’s forward options certainly appear well-stocked going into the game against the Blues.

However, not too long ago, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez were active in South America. It could be that Jurgen is simply taking a risk in case any of his senior choices aren’t quite prepared.

James McConnell, a young midfielder who pleased the management in the preseason, was also shown in the video.

Kone-Doherty is still in the starting lineup.

If Kone-Doherty was included in the matchday squad for the weekend, it would come as a huge surprise.

However, it is extremely exciting to watch him working out with all of Liverpool’s top talent.

Trent has calmly gone about establishing himself at Anfield, though it hasn’t been as dramatic as Ben Doak’s ascent through the age groups.

The forward was called “unbelievable” when he signed from Derry City [The Athletic]. Kone-Doherty has been consistently living up to it thus far.

Although Liverpool supporters won’t see him for the first time on Saturday, his debut shouldn’t be too far off.

Kone-Doherty might play in the Europa League at some point, depending on injuries and suspensions. After all, the final is in Dublin. What a great narrative that would make.

But for the time being, Trent, just keep working. You’re definitely going in the right way.
