At the London Stadium, Manchester United lost to West Ham United by a score of two goals to none.
As pressure rises on Erik ten Hag and his players, goals in the second half from Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen, United’s in-form attacking tandem, clinched the deal.
Compared to West Ham’s 34% ball possession, the Red Devils enjoyed 66% of the ball.
Out of their eleven attempts at goal, Ten Hag’s team could only muster three shots on goal. In contrast, out of the 12 shots they took, the Hammers only had five that needed Andre Onana to make a save.
United completed 604 passes with an 85% pass completion rate.
Conversely, the stars of David Moyes strung 312 passes with a 79% completion rate.
Kobbie Mainoo was one of United’s better players throughout a very dismal and annoying match. He began the game with Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay in a midfield trio.
Mainoo completed ninety minutes of play, including extra time spent on the pitch, with eighteen touches of the ball.
The highly-regarded 18-year-old completed 60 of the 68 passes he tried with success, good for an astonishing 88% pass accuracy.
He made one crucial pass.
Mainoo twice found his desired aim when he attempted to ping four long balls to his teammates.
The former Carrington Academy student engaged in eight ground fights. He triumphed six times over the physical midfielders of West Ham, including Edson Alvarez and Tomas Soucek.
Mainoo had to compete in three aerial contests. Two of these were won by him.
He made two clearances and only received one foul.
The United player won an incredible five tackles and made one interception.
Unfortunately, Mainoo was on the losing team. He played an excellent game overall, despite his mistake that led to Kudus’ goal and West Ham’s second goal.
He is undoubtedly not regressing, and he is emerging as the Red Devils’ bright spot amid a difficult time.
