French football star Kylian Mbappe bought a piece of the German tech company Loewe Technology GmbH. The company hopes that this will boost sales and possibly pave the way for an IPO.
Loewe said that the 25-year-old Real Madrid player bought a less than 10% stake through his investment company Coalition Capital, but did not say how much the deal was worth. This comes after Mbappe became a brand spokesperson for Loewe earlier this year. Loewe is best known for making high-end TVs.
Aslan Khabliev, CEO of Loewe, told Bloomberg News that the company wants to sharply raise its yearly revenue from €60 million to around €300 million ($335 million) over the next couple of years, with a focus on the North American and Asian markets. He said that could lead to an IPO in the long run.
Khabliev said, “Loewe’s value should rise to about €500 million in the next five years.” He also said that the relationship between tennis star Roger Federer and sports brand On could serve as a model for Loewe’s deal with Mbappe.
This year, Mbappe bought a piece of the French second-division football team Stade Malherbe Caen from Oaktree Capital Management. For Loewe, the football star’s huge online following, which includes 122 million Instagram fans, could be very helpful.
“Kylian was very helpful with the Bluetooth speaker we made with him,” Khabliev said. It was also said that some of Mbappe’s French national team players have backed the product on social media.
