Mbappe ridiculed his rival as he celebrated.

After the French striker was taken down by the Belgian center-back in the penalty area before to the own goal, Mbappe teased Vertongen with his celebration.

When Mbappe dribbled into the penalty area in that particular scenario, the former Tottenham player tackled from behind and retrieved the ball. Despite Mbappe’s fall, the referee ruled that Vertongen had not committed a foul, therefore denying the French team a penalty.

After the aforementioned incident, Vertongen even chastised Mbappe for diving, and the two got into an altercation. It was only until the referee intervened that the irate pair subsided.

After the accident, Mbappe and Vertongen got into a fight.

Though Vertongen did a good job of stopping Mbappe, he was also responsible for Kolo Muani’s shot in the 85th minute, which went directly into the home team’s net and rendered custodian Koen Casteels useless.

Mbappe seized the chance and dashed to Vertongen to celebrate and make fun of everyone in a nasty way.

“His festivities were deplorable. Did you really need to brag like that?

Be professional, a frustrated fan yelled at Mbappe for his celebration.

“Who doesn’t defend the national flag and colours? Another supporter remarked, “No one is happy when they score an own goal; he will pay the price one day.”

Fans have drawn comparisons between Mbappe’s behaviour of insulting his opponents and the contentious actions of Jude Bellingham and Cristiano Ronaldo earlier in the tournament.

In Portugal’s first group game comeback victory, Ronaldo, 39, lifted his fist at Czech custodian Jindrich Stanek and yelled in midfielder Petr Sevcik’s ear.

Additionally, UEFA is presently looking into Bellingham’s obscene gesture at the Slovakia bench after his incredible goal on June 30th helped England win 2-1 in the thrilling final 16 of Euro 2024.
