Real Madrid got a surprise fitness boost from Kylian Mbappé before their Champions League match against Lille. In his game against Alavés on September 24, the Frenchman hurt his left biceps femoris.
Mbappé was meant to be out until after the international break, but Carlo Ancelotti gave good news about his player’s health. “Kylian Mbappé has recovered well,” the boss told the press today. “Today he will train with us.” We will then decide if he will play against Lille. We don’t want to put him at risk. It was a surprise when Mbappé was added to Real Madrid’s UCL team just one week after hurting his thigh.
The French player went back to his home country with Real Madrid, but it wasn’t thought that he could make it to training or the game on Wednesday.
Now, Ancelotti’s positive news could mean that Real Madrid’s top scorer comes back much sooner than thought. Tomorrow, Mbappé practiced with the team, and Ancelotti can use him against Lille if he wants to. The player used to play for Paris Saint-Germain and knows the other team well. In just 14 games against the Ligue 1 team, he scored 11 goals and set up 6 others. Also, Ethan Mbappé, Mbappé’s younger brother, plays for the club. The brothers won’t be able to play together again, though, because the 17-year-old got hurt against Le Havre and will be out for weeks. Even if Mbappé doesn’t play in the Champions League game on Wednesday, he could still play against Villarreal on October 5. That would be a lot earlier than planned. In Real Madrid’s 1–1 draw with Atlético Madrid, the 25-year-old should have scored a goal. If Mbappé comes back, he will play in front of Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo.
