Early in the season, Garnacho set up United’s win at Goodison Park with a now-iconic overhead strike that was in the running for goal of the season.

People right away compared the Argentinian’s great effort to Rooney’s famous finish for United against Man City 13 years ago.

In that Manchester match, Rooney scored a goal that shocked Old Trafford. He has now said what he thinks about Garnacho’s goal against his old team, Everton.

The former captain of England was watching United’s match against Everton in the Premier League on Saturday and said that Garnacho scored the “better goal.”

Rooney’s best goal hit his shin and went over City custodian Joe Hart at the time. The 38-year-old praised Garnacho for getting a better connection with his shot.

It takes more skill to score with your shin than your foot, that’s what I’ve always said. A piece of both the foot and the shin. It was better at Garnacho’s.

‘A goal is a goal, I agree with Rio. That is some cool skill.

“It was clear that his goal and technique were better, but I think mine was the bigger goal,” he said.

Rooney had a great run at United, where he won the Champions League and many Premier League and domestic cup titles.

“I thought the technique was better because Wayne’s came off his shin guard, right?” He asked, “Was it off your shinpad or not?”

“The connection and contact he gets on it is a little bit cleaner. That’s all it is. But Wayne’s on a different level because of how big this game is.”
