WHAT HAPPENED?
The Herons will play football again on January 19 for the first time since 2024. Mess and his team will take on Los Cuscatlecos. The game will be played on the road in San Salvador at the Estadio Cuscatlán. It will happen one day before the USMNT plays Italy in Texas in an international friendly. Along with the friendly against El Salvador, the Herons have been linked with a match against the Argentine powerhouse River Plate on Thursday. This is on top of reports of matches against Al-Halal and Newell’s Old Boys.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Since the game is the day before the USMNT’s next game, Gregg Berhalter and Tata Martino will have to decide where to put Benjamin Cremasch and Deandre Yedlin. The young midfielder played his first international game in September against Oman, but he isn’t yet a captain because he hasn’t played in a competitive off-season game. On the other hand, Yedlin hasn’t been a part of the program lately, but he might be in January since he doesn’t have an official FIFA window.
