Last Saturday, at a gas station in the small northern Colombian town of Barrancas, armed men on motorbikes abducted Luis Manuel Diaz and his wife, Cilenis Marulanda.

While Diaz’s father hasn’t been seen since, Cilenis was saved in a matter of hours.

The National Liberation Army, also known as the ELN, is an armed rebel group that Colombia’s government claims is responsible for holding him captive.

Due to the kidnapping, Diaz, 26, has missed Liverpool’s previous two games; nonetheless, he celebrated his daughter’s birthday today.

In addition, Gera posted pictures of the family to her Instagram account and made the tragic request to the ELN kidnappers.

“Today our great love, a princess who fills our hearts with hope, turns 2 years old,” she stated.

“Having Grandpa Mane back by our side would be the ultimate gift for her, and we have faith in God that this will happen.

But ELN stated earlier today that they will free Diaz’s father once they had established his relationship to the Liverpool player.

ELN rebels claimed responsibility for the kidnapping on Thursday and offered the Diaz family a glimmer of hope, promising to release Luis Manuel within “hours”.

Although he still remained a hostage two days later, the terrorist group has now revealed it has begun the process of releasing Luis Manuel.

“We must recognize the situation you have heard in the news is true and the ELN is going to free Mr. Diaz’s father as soon as possible,” said Juan Carlos Cuellar, an ELN representative.

Patricia, a 40-year-old female fighter, is thought to have been the mastermind behind the kidnapping by the communist ELN rebels.

Rumors that the winger’s father was being sent to Venezuela have been debunked with the announcement of his release.

As Diaz urged the public to march in support of his family, his mother Cilenis made her first public appearance since the kidnapping earlier this week and demanded the release of her partner.
