Social media users began to use the hashtag “LiVARpool” after a contentious moment during Liverpool vs. Chelsea.
In the twenty-third minute, Diogo Jota scored the first goal of the match by edging past Chelsea’s defense and into the back of the net.
However, Chelsea believed they should have been given a penalty after Conor Gallagher and Virgil van Dijk collided just minutes before Jota’s goal.
The Liverpool defender hauled down the Blues midfielder inside the box after he raced past him.
Paul Tierney, the match referee, did not signal the spot, though, as VAR maintained the on-field ruling.
Following the incident, Chelsea supporters expressed their displeasure with the choice on social media.
A user on X commented, “LiVARpool strikes again.”
“How is this not a penalty on Gallagher???” was tweeted by another. LiVARpool is back at it.”
One more person said, “LiVARpool are a f**king disgrace.”
A fourth yelled, “What a joke. LiVARpool makes a comeback.”
Another said: “LiVARpool makes another appearance. Amazing. The Premier League genuinely hopes Liverpool wins this year.”
Conor Bradley doubled Liverpool’s advantage with a low shot just before halftime, making things worse for Chelsea.
