Bayern Munich and Liverpool have begun negotiations for the transfer of midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

Jurgen Klopp has spent over £110 million on new players this summer, and Gravenberch has been a top target for the Reds’ midfield revamp for months.

The two teams are currently in negotiations to reach an acceptable sum for the 21-year-old Dutch international, but an agreement is still a ways off. Gravenberch was reportedly worth £30m according to reports from earlier this summer.

Despite Bayern’s best efforts to keep Gravenberch this summer, the club has granted the player’s transfer request if a replacement can be found before the transfer market ends on Friday.

After coming from Ajax for an initial £16m last summer, it is said that the midfielder is eager to leave Bayern and is open to a move to Liverpool. Gravenberch has been limited to just three starts in the Bundesliga this season, with the rest of his appearances coming as substitutes.

Former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag is now the manager of Manchester United, who had previously shown interest in the Dutchman but have since moved on to pursue Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina.

Despite having a number of central and attacking midfielders at his disposal, Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel expressed a desire for a defensive midfielder prior to a friendly against Liverpool in Singapore earlier this month. On Wednesday, reports surfaced suggesting that the German club was interested in Fulham defender Joao Palhinha.

After failing to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who both signed with Chelsea, Liverpool spent £95 million on the midfield duo of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai before preseason. They then snatched up defensive midfielder Wataru Endo for £16.25 million.

Al-Ittihad are rumored to be interested in signing Joe Gomez and are reportedly planning to make an official bid of roughly £118 million for Mohamed Salah, according to reports out of Saudi Arabia. It’s highly doubtful Liverpool will entertain bids for Gomez due to their lack of center-back options and their firm position that Salah is not for sale.

According to reports out of France, Ibrahima Konate turned down a transfer offer from the Saudi Pro League champions. Fabinho and Jordan Henderson aren’t the only ones who have left for Saudi Arabia this summer; Thiago Alcantara, Luis Diaz, and Alisson Becker have all been linked to the cash-rich league as well.
