It’s being thought about by Liverpool whether to make a late offer to sign Juventus forward Federico Chiesa this week.
At this point, nothing has been done, but the Reds know that Chiesa is free and are thinking about whether to try to bring him to England. The Italian player is said to want to move to Anfield.
As the transfer deadline approaches quickly, the club has been quiet on the transfer front. However, new manager Arne Slot has won his first two Premier League games in charge.
But now that they’ve agreed to terms with Valencia for keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, Liverpool are looking at several other choices for the future.
Slot seems willing to add to his front line, even though he has players like Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, and Darwin Nunez to choose from.
Chiesa is not part of Thiago Motta’s plan for Turin, and Juventus is actively looking for ways to get rid of the Italy international.
The 26-year-old has only one year left on his contract, so he might not be able to get a big fee.
He is said to have been in talks about moving to Barcelona after not being with Juventus for their last three pre-season matches earlier this month.
Chiesa moved from Fiorentina to AC Milan in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth just over £40 million. He had been on loan there for two seasons before that.
He played in 37 games last season and scored 10 goals and set up 3 others. He was on the Italy team that lost in the last 16 of Euro 2024.
But because Motta didn’t want to play him with the first team, Chiesa is likely to move on in the next few days.
“We were clear with each other,” Motta said. “We talked to all of them.”
“We have skilled players who are used to playing often.”
They need to find answers as soon as possible for their good and the good of everyone else. The club is trying to help them.
