Dominik Szoboszlai’s Carabao Cup miracle against Leicester has led Liverpool supporters to believe they have finally discovered the right guy to don Steven Gerrard’s number eight shirt.
The Hungarian scored an incredible goal as the Reds once more overcame deficits to defeat the Foxes 3-1 at Anfield and go to the fourth round of the competition.
Szoboszlai’s goal from just beyond the box, which deflected off the underside of the bar and into the goal, was the topic of conversation for days following the game.
After joining Liverpool from RB Leipzig in the summer, it was the 22-year-old’s second goal in red and white, and it drew similarities to one of the team’s all-time greatest number eights, Steven Gerrard.
Social media was used by supporters to commend the midfield player and declare that they had at last discovered the former Liverpool captain’s heir.

The thunderbolt was likened to one of Steven Gerrard’s strikes wearing the number eight shirt
‘Ladies and Gentlemen. We found him. We found the Gerrard Regen’ one post read as they added a side-by-side image of the two players in similar celebrating stance.
Another fan echoed the same sentiment by posting matching images of Szobozslai and Gerrard shaping to shoot, alongside the caption ‘We have our own Gerrard regen.’
The same theme continued with another post reading: ‘Iโve said it before, and Iโll say it again. Szoboszlai is Gerrardโs regen.’

Some went even further with their praise for the Hungarian, suggesting that not only does he share the same attributes as Gerrard but that he’ll be one day spoken about in the same discussion alongside the reds icon, Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes as the Premier League’s very best.

Social media was used by Liverpool supporters to proclaim Szoboszlai as Steven Gerrard’s heir.
Dominik Szoboszlai is the closest thing to Steven Gerrard that I have seen since his retirement, based on what I have seen of him thus far.
In no time, Szoboszlai will be in the same league as Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bryune. And after five or six years at Liverpool, he’ll be mentioned with Gerrard, Scholes, and Lampard. It was originally heard here.
Having the best coach behind him, incredible talent, and an amazing mindset, the sky is the limit.
With over 700 appearances and 185 goals scored, Gerrard helped Liverpool win two FA Cups, three League Cups, the UEFA Cup, and that unforgettable night in Istanbul in 2005 when they overcame three goals down to defeat AC Milan in the Champions League.
Although Szoboszlai still has a ways to go before he can repeat those achievements, he did assist Liverpool in winning their Carabao Cup match after the team led by an early goal by Kasey McAteer.
The Foxes led 1-0 at the half, but goals from Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, and Szoboszlai’s worldie in the second half secured their spot in the fourth round, where they will take on Bournemouth.
