Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah’s late penalty rescues AFCON Draw for Egypt, captain Wataru Endo inspires Japan to 4-2 victory in Asian Cup Opener

In their opening Africa Cup of Nations match against Mozambique, Egypt managed to rescue a 2-2 draw thanks to a penalty kick from Mohamed Salah in the 97th minute.

Deep into stoppage time, the Liverpool forward calmly put his spot-kick off the post to ensure the Pharaohs won their opening Group B match on Sunday.

When Salah’s effort at a shot ended with the ball breaking for Mostafa Mohamed, who gave his team a 1-0 lead in the first two minutes of play in Abidjan, Salah was credited with an assist.

After that, Mozambique turned the tide of the match by scoring twice in three minutes in the second half, but Egypt’s captain Salah would have the last word.

Liverpool midfielder Endo played the entire ninety minutes of the Group D match on Sunday, contributing to Takumi Minamino’s second goal of the game, which at the close of halftime tied the Samurai Blue at 2-2.

At Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, Vietnam swiftly equalized and posed an upset by moving ahead 2-1 just after the half-hour mark. Earlier, former Red Minamino had opened the scoring.

Nevertheless, Endo’s deft pass to Minamino cancelled out that advantage, and in stoppage time during the first half, Keito Nakamura gave Japan the lead back.

Ayase Ueda’s late goal also sealed the three points for Endo’s team, who will play Iraq on Friday.
