Marcus Rashford has come under fire for the amount of pressure he applied during Manchester United’s humiliating loss to Brighton.
United’s poor start to the Premier League campaign continued on Saturday as Erik ten Hag’s team was defeated 3-1 by Brighton.
In fact, it is the first time in 34 years that United has dropped three of its opening five league contests, and the loss at Old Trafford snapped a 20-game league home winning streak.
Danny Welbeck, a former United striker, scored Brighton’s first goal in the 20th minute after going unnoticed. After the break, Tariq Lamptey fed Pascal Gross to extend the visitors’ lead, but Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof were sluggish to react.
In order to score Brighton’s third goal, Joao Pedro curled the ball beyond Andre Onana, but Hannibal Mejbri promptly scored a consolation goal for United.
Despite the outcome, Rasmus Hojlund and Sergio Reguilon both performed well on their club debuts, and talisman Marcus Rashford was active on the left wing.
But some United supporters have criticized the latter for his work away from the ball.
Some Old Trafford club followers are upset by a video showing Rashford walking while Brighton taps the ball from defense to midfield. One person said on the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, “This is disgraceful.”Someone else said, “Rashford thinks he’s Ronaldo? At his age, Ronaldo presses. A third person asked: “Also… if Sancho is the one who’s not up to standard then I wanna know what this is???” in reference to Jadon Sancho, a United outcast. The fourth person remarked, “Bro is fake pressing.”With six points, Ten Hag’s team fell to 12th place, but the Dutchman believed the team was not in trouble. We must stick together, follow the strategy, and abide by the regulations, he said, adding to Sky Sports, “and we will turn this around.“It [the form] disturbs me, but I have to watch how we play. It comes down to character; we must demonstrate our tenacity and the cohesiveness of the squad. Players rising to the occasion and displaying courage in light of our ability to play effectively and generate opportunities in all of our games, particularly today’s (Saturday) matchup against Arsenal and Forest. But we also need to step it up and make some adjustments.
