Mason Greenwood was told to leave his job on Tuesday night after getting angry during Getafe’s La Liga game against Rayo Vallecano.
Between the breaks, Greenwood’s team was already down 2-0 and had 10 players because of an earlier double yellow card. Things got even worse when he was sent off for dissent in the 50th minute.
The forward joined on loan from Manchester United on the last day of the transfer window and has spent the season there. The home team needed a goal badly to get back in the game, so Greenwood picked up the ball near the halfway line and dribbled it past three Rayo Vallecano players.
After passing the ball to a teammate, Greenwood runs toward the other team’s goal, but two defenders are following him closely.
The English loan player is finally stopped, but since no foul was called, he glares at the official and seems to suggest that there were several what he thought were violations during the phase of play.
After that, he motions with his hand and seems to yell something at the match referee.
Greenwood walks off, but the judge quickly pulls out a red card from his back pocket, making things even worse for Getafe after only 50 minutes.
To make things even worse, Damian Suarez was given a red card from the bench after being replaced by Omar Alderete. The home team got an amazing three red cards during the game.
The away team won 2-0, moving them level on points with Valencia and keeping them in 11th place in the table. Getafe had no shots on goal during the game, while the away team had eight.
Ten cards were shown during the game, the three red cards for Juanmi Latasa, Greenwood, and Suarez being the most important ones.
After an internal investigation, it was agreed that the former England international would not be playing for Manchester United shortly. He is now on loan in Spain.
He did this after charges of attempted rape, assault, and forced control were dropped against him. All charges were dropped against the 22-year-old.
La Liga teams are interested in Greenwood’s skills permanently, but his time in Spain hasn’t done much to damage any trees.
Barcelona may be interested in signing the player, even though Getafe wants to keep him. In 15 club games, he has scored five goals and set up four others.
According to the Sun, Greenwood’s play has impressed Barcelona so much that they are willing to pay £40 million for his services, even though his return to the Spanish team has been somewhat disappointing.
The story also says that the No. 10 shirt, which is currently owned by Ansu Fati and is on loan at Brighton, could be given to Greenwood to make the deal more appealing.
