Manchester United is reportedly interested in acquiring Joshua Zirkzee, a striker for Bologna, this winter, according to German publication Sport1.
This season, Man United has had difficulty consistently scoring goals in the Premier League. From the same number of games, they have only scored 18 goals. Only Sheffield United, in 20th place, has failed to score less in the first half of the season.
As the January transfer window approaches, Sport1 reports that the club is investigating a trade for Zirkzee, who has been playing well for Bologna in Serie A this year. This is a horrible statistic. In 17 games, he has 7 goals and 2 assists.
According to Sport1, United will need to spend almost £26 million to acquire the gifted Dutch striker. The main worry, though, is that Bayern may match any offer from another team and have a £19 million buy-back clause.
New striker
In terms of striking over the first half of the season, New Striker United has not been very effective. Rasmus Hojlund has five goals in the Champions League, but he hasn’t yet scored in the Premier League of England.
With just one goal, Anthony Martial has found it difficult to have a significant influence. With just two league goals, Marcus Rashford is likewise going through a slump, and Antony hasn’t scored in any competition.
During the January transfer window, Erik ten Hag ought to be frantically trying to recruit a new striker. Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy looked to be the favourite choice earlier this month, but he has stated that he wants to spend the winter with Tottenham Hotspur.
If Zirkzee can fulfil his potential, he might be a great addition for United. The 22-year-old’s hold-up play is good. He enjoys feeding passes and dribbling during counterattacks. He’s got good finishing ability.
Given their concerns over FFP, United is unlikely to spend heavily on a striker in January, and Zirkzee appears to be a plausible target. His playing career is still in its early stages, and he still has chance to grow in England.
