When people saw Scott McTominay’s injury-time goal at Old Trafford on Saturday, it sent chills down their spines.
McTominay has become a new hero for the Red Devils. He took the game by the horns and scored two dramatic goals in extra time to earn a 2-1 win over Brentford.
The Scotland international came on in the 87th minute, and Erik ten Hag made what will now be seen as a brilliant replacement.
Thomas Strakosha saved Diogo Dalot’s shot, and the rebound went to McTominay, who handled the ball and put it in the bottom corner in the 93rd minute.
The 26-year-old then came out of nowhere and scored for United by jumping the highest in a crowded six-yard box. Old Trafford went crazy with excitement.
McTominay was seen taking it all in after the game ended, yelling at the camera, “You can’t buy that!” He looked very happy. Wow! Woo!”
Fans loved how passionately McTominay responded to the crowd. One fan tweeted, “He knows what that football club is all about.”
“Love this guy so much,” said someone else.
“One of my favorite players ever since Ole days,” said someone else.
With McTominay’s goal in the 97th minute, United moves up to ninth place in the Premier League table. This makes things a little easier for boss Ten Hag.
After the exciting win, McTominay said, “I’ve been a part of this club since I was five years old.” I know better than anyone how it feels to never be able to give up.
“Everyone at this football club is against you when you’re not doing well.” We feel like we’re living in a bubble because everyone else is calling us names.
