Gary Neville made his DJ debut earlier today when he played with Tim Burgess, lead singer of the band Charlatans.
They worked together at the Kendal Calling event in Cumbria.
This week, Noel Gallager’s High Flying Birds, The Streets, Paolo Nutini, and Sugababes have been the main acts at Kendal Calling.
Neville, who used to play fullback for Manchester United, is one of the music stars.
He got used to playing at the Theatre of Dreams every other week in front of more than 70,000 people.
In a tent that was already full, though, he faced a much scarier thought earlier today.
Watch Neville hit a beach ball into the crowded crowd while The Courteeners’ “Not Nineteen Forever” played.
He seemed to jig on the spot because he liked what he was doing.
Neville said earlier this year that he had never been a DJ before.
This is what he said on Geoff Shreeves’s show Football, Music, and Me: “When I finished my football career, there were many things I did to get out of my comfort zone.”I mean, what the hell am I doing? I’m DJing with Tim at Kendal Calling.
“I’m trying to wangle my way out of it, but I can’t once I’ve said yes to something.”
He said, “Never in my life!” when asked if he had ever done something like that before.
Burgess put his friend at ease earlier this year by saying, “I’m really looking forward to DJing with Gary; he has great taste in music.”
“The last time we were on stage together was when he played guitar with The Charlatans.”
“Can’t promise we’ll be doing any songs together but there might be an impromptu singalong at some point.”
