On his own ground, Mohamed Salah was made fun of.
Tuesday’s international friendly between Tunisia and Egypt ended in a memorable 3-1 victory for Tunisia thanks to Hannibal Mejbri’s performance off the bench. And after the visitors scored their third goal, the Manchester United midfielder ruffled Liverpool’s feathers by leading a mocking of Mohamed Salah.
Days after securing a spot in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with a 3-0 victory against Botswana and finishing first in Group J ahead of Equatorial Guinea, Tunisia left for Egypt.
Salah’s Egypt were the favorites, but Jalel Kadri’s team startled them by bursting out to a 2-0 lead after just seven minutes.
Three minutes into the match, Aissa Laidouni scored the game’s first goal before Hamdi Fathi’s own goal increased the lead.
With United playing a limited part thus far this season, Hannibal watched from the bench as Omar Kamal’s goal in the 34th minute brought Egypt back into the contest.
However, the 20-year-old entered the game with just over 10 minutes remaining, and he was in charge of the celebrations when Hamza Rafia added a third goal to seal the victory in the 95th minute.
Salah was caught on camera approvingly grinning as Hannibal and his Tunisia teammates imitated the Anfield legend’s yoga celebration.
.
Throughout his time playing for United’s senior team and during his youth career, Hannibal hasn’t shied away from difficulty.
In the catastrophic 2021โ2022 season, he made one of his three United appearances as a late substitution in a 4-0 loss at Anfield.
While Hannibal’s violence was praised by the supporters of the vanquished United team, it drew condemnation from Liverpool supporters who saw it as him venting his wrath on the home team during his brief time on the field.
On that particular day, Salah triumphed by scoring twice to follow up Liverpool’s 5-0 thrashing of Old Trafford earlier in the season.
However, it was Hannibal who was giggling following Tunisia’s victory over Egypt, who had also earned a spot in the AFCON by winning Group D ahead of Guinea.

At the age of 20, Hannibal has already won 26 international matches and has represented Tunisia at the AFCON and World Cup.
After a productive stint at Birmingham City last season, Erik ten Hag decided not to send him out on loan this summer and instead kept him in his team.
But after Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat came during the summer transfer window, minutes might be difficult to come by in the coming weeks.
Ten Hag’s engine room has become even more bloated as a result of United’s refusal to move Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay, making Hannibal maybe his eighth or ninth choice midfielder.
