According to an internal transfer update from Old Trafford provided by talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, Manchester United has a “definite interest” in Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.
As the Red Devils attempt to turn around their dismal record, Erik ten Hag is hoping that the entrance of minority stakeholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe will provide him a lift during the winter transfer window of 2024.
During the 2023–24 season, Olise caught the interest of multiple Premier League heavyweights, and before the market’s first deadline in February, he might be the focus of a transfer saga. Man Utd hopes that a few smart additions will shift the focus back toward increasing ten Hag’s chances of routinely competing for championships after a turbulent season both on and off the field.
Man United could be Olise’s final destination
The winger signed a new contract in August 2023, giving Crystal Palace the impression that they had sealed Olise’s long-term future at Selhurst Park. Premier League powerhouse Chelsea, who had triggered his £35 million release clause in his previous deal, passed on the 22-year-old. Rejecting any doubts about his near future, Olise would agree to a new four-year contract. Palace is still in shock after Wilfried Zaha’s departure, which occurred at the end of his contract in June 2023.
The France U21 international, who sustained a serious hamstring injury last summer, has had a patchy 2023–24 campaign. After sustaining another injury in the same region, the speedster would eventually make his comeback in a 3-2 home loss to Everton in November 2023. However, he would miss the rest of Palace’s January schedule.
Nevertheless, Manchester United is still interested in Olise, and they might even be prepared to give up one of their starting players to get him. The Daily Star reports that the Red Devils may make an offer for former Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka in a possible trade to entice the south London team to let go of Olise. According to reports, Palace is interested in signing the full-back, and United is willing to part with the right-footed defender in order to save Olise’s future.
The wide receiver for the Eagles, who talkSPORT commentator Darren Bent called “unstoppable,” is believed to have a release option in his contract that goes into effect during the summer transfer window of 2024 and is rumored to be worth £60 million. The Red Devils will therefore be keen to capture Olise before his contract increases in the upcoming months.
