Andre Onana, the goalie for Manchester United, has been left out of Cameroon’s important Africa Cup of Nations game against Gambia.
Cameroon needs to win to make it to the next round of the AFCON. Senegal also needs to beat Guinea to make it.
But Cameroon manager Rigobert Song has chosen not to start Onana. Instead, Fabrice Ondoa, who is related to the United player, has been put in goal.
There are, however, rumors that the decision may have come from higher up, as Onana and Samuel Eto’o are said to have fought.
I think that Onana and Eto’o, who is the head of the Cameroonian FA, have not gotten along since Eto’o was kicked out of the 2022 World Cup.
It is also said that Eto’o did not want the United player to be on the team at all and told Song not to play him against Gambia.
It happened after Cameroon had a bad game in which they lost 3-1 to Senegal.
All three of the AFCON champions’ shots on goal were blocked by Onana, who also failed to stop Sadio Mane’s late effort.
That also included a strange moment when the goalie ran up the field to help with a free kick that went wide.
This year, Onana was already late to AFCON because United asked him to leave the game against Tottenham in the Premier League on January 14. The Indomitable Lions played their first game and tied with Guinea. They now only have one point from their two games.
The goalkeeper flew right to Ivory Coast, where this year’s AFCON is being held since Cameroon’s first game of the tournament was the next day.
He didn’t make it in time, though, because bad weather forced his flight to end early.
However, they made up before AFCON this year, which caused the United star to change his mind.
The star player who used to play for Inter Milan has had a rough season at Old Trafford since moving to the Premier League in the summer.
Onana has made a lot of mistakes this season while coming in for David de Gea.
However, only Alisson of Liverpool and Jordan Pickford of Everton have kept more clean sheets than the Cameroonian this season.
