Casemiro will likely not be able to play for Manchester United again because he hurt himself again against Newcastle.
Bruno Fernandes, who usually plays as captain, was put on the bench for Wednesday night’s fourth round of the Carabao Cup. The Brazilian returned to captain Erik ten Hag’s team after being out for a while with a ban and an ankle injury he got while on international duty last month.
But he had a hard time in another terrible 3-0 home loss that ended United’s hopes of defending their first major title in six years and put more pressure on his manager, who was already under fire.
Casemiro got a yellow card for a couple of slow fouls on Joe Willock early on, and he had a hard time stopping Newcastle’s fast middle, along with Mason Mount, who was disappointing, and young Hannibal Mejbri.
The former Real Madrid star was then taken off along with Diogo Dalot, who was also not playing well. At halftime, Ten Hag brought on Sofyan Amrabat and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who was healthy again.
Ten Hag has since stated that Casemiro was taken off because he was hurt. He will likely not be able to play in Saturday’s Premier League lunchtime trip to Fulham.
At this point, he didn’t say exactly what was bothering the 31-year-old, and it’s not clear how much more time he will miss.
