According to a story, Manchester United wants to sign Scott McTominay to a new, longer-term deal.
The Scot has been linked with a move away from the club for a long time. West Ham has been interested in him for a long time and is in talks with Manchester United over a deal for the summer.
But the move never happened, and he has impressed the people at Old Trafford this season, scoring five goals in 18 Premier League games, including braces against both Brentford and Chelsea.
Only 12 of his 18 league games this season have been as a replacement. However, his role in the team is becoming clearer as Erik ten Hag moves him to play more in the forward areas.
The Sun says that Ten Hag has warm feelings for McTominay and that the player is now an important part of Ten Hag’s plans for the future of the club. United want to extend his contract for another year.
McTominay has played 233 times for United since his first game for the team when he was 20 years old, near the end of the 2016–17 season.
He has played for six managers, including acting coaches Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick. His first game was under Louis van Gaal, and he has also played for Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Ten Hag.
But he hasn’t been able to secure a starting spot over the years. He is good value for money though, having come up through the United school, and he has done a good job for the club when he has been on the team.
In December, when his team was having a bad run of form, the 27-year-old openly backed his manager and called him “great” after a 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Anfield.
There are rumors that McTominay, who makes a reported £60,000 a week, might not sign the new deal. However, he and Harry Maguire are now said to be very important to the club’s plans after being on the verge of leaving in the summer because Sir Jim Ratcliffe wanted to bring in more British players.
Once again, Maguire is back in training after being out for a few weeks with an illness. He seems to have gotten a starting spot on the team after falling behind after losing the captaincy.
