Marc-Andre ter Stegen disappointed after Shakhtar 0-0 Barcelona: ‘Losing a match we had to win’

Following their 0-1 loss to Shakhtar Donetsk last night, Barcelona lost the chance to move on to the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

The Catalan team, which had won all three of their Champions League games so far, played horribly away from home.

A lot of changes were made by Xavi to the starting lineup, and even though they had the ball for most of the game, they had a hard time against a strong Shakhtar defense.

Speaking after the game, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the goalkeeper for Barcelona, said that everyone in the locker room is mad at themselves because this is their second loss in three games across all categories.

This is what the goalkeeper told Mundo Deportivo: “We are mad at ourselves because that can’t happen to us.”

“They gave us a chance in the first half, but we couldn’t make it work.” He also said, “We feel like we lost a game that we had to win in order to move on to the next round of the Champions League.”

The experienced goalie said that Barcelona’s recent bad luck is just not acceptable, especially since the Blaugrana were the better team for most of those losses.

“We’ve had two bad games.” We played well until the 60th minute of the Clasico. We went down a bit after that, but I don’t know why right now.

“We’re going to look at what happened in today’s game.” We are looking forward. “We still have one more game before the break, and we’ll do everything we can to win it,” he said.

Lastly, he was asked about Ilkay Gundogan’s comments about the team’s play after the 1-2 loss in El Clasico. He refused to answer, saying, “You’ve talked about this five times, I don’t understand it.”
