Reports say that Marcos Alonso, a defender who used to play for Chelsea, will leave Barcelona for free at the end of the season.
The 33-year-old has had a hard time getting into games this season because he hurt his back and had to miss three months of play.
After moving from Chelsea to Barcelona in 2022, Alonso played 37 times in his first season with the team, which won the LaLiga title.
But since boss Xavi is leaving this summer, the team is likely to have some changes at the end of the season.
Fabrizio Romano says that Alonso will leave the Camp Nou after two years with the team. He also says that Sergi Roberto’s situation with the club is still uncertain.
The academy graduate has played 366 times for the club where he grew up, but Romano says that Xavi will decide if he stays or leaves when his deal ends in June.
There were short stints in the Premier League for Alonso with Bolton and Sunderland before he played six years with Chelsea.
The left back helped Antonio Conte’s team win the league, and he became known as one of the best wing-backs in the world.
After the Italian left Chelsea in 2018, though, Alonso lost favor with the team’s new coaches. Even though Maurizio Sarri put him on the bench for the last few rounds of their Europa League win, he played in 31 league games that season.
When Chelsea won the Champions League in 2021 under Thomas Tuchel, Alonso’s playing time continued to go down.
