Following his loan with Spanish team Getafe, the striker is currently back in the UK. Many clubs have been connected to his signature, but a move has not yet materialised.

Greenwood, 22, saw allegations of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning real bodily injury dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February last year.

Alongside fellow academy graduate Shoretire, he has been maintaining his conditioning. The pair was photographed practicing on a Manchester football pitch.

Greenwood wore a Jamaica national team shirt and carried orange footwear with him. Shoretire wore a tracksuit.

The later, 20, left United this summer at the end of his contract. Previously the youngest-ever Red Devils player in Europe, he is currently without a team.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a new minority owner of United, had given hints about a Greenwood decision shortly to be taken. Speaking early this year, he said: “We will make a decision, correct. I can only discuss the guiding idea behind our approach to such decisions. Are we satisfied if he is a good person or not? Is he the correct kind of footballer?”

“We oversee football as he is a Manchester United player. Therefore, the response is “Yeah, we have to decide. We clearly have to make a decision. Nobody has made any decisions.

“He is not the only one; he is on loan, clearly. We have to make a decision regarding one or two football players we have to deal with. The approach will be to grasp the facts rather than the hoopla.

“then attempt and arrive to fair decision based on values; essentially, is he a good guy or not? Would we be happy with him playing truly for Manchester United? Would the supporters be at ease with it?”

Greenwood’s Old Trafford deal merely has one year left. He has previously mentioned his want for the decision on his future to come within the next week.

Among the teams significantly connected with him are Marseille, Lazio, and Getafe. Angel Torres, the president of the latter, earlier indicated his wish to permanently sign the striker.

Talking with Radio Marca, he said: “He will continue another year depending on the boy and the parents.” Manchester, the story from last week, the point is that should a good offer arise, they would wish to sell. Since he won be not returning there.

“We shall thus have to wait until the end of June, a month and a half or two months. Still, it relies on the family and him. With the fans, they are really content and relaxed.

“He had not played for 16 months when he arrived and we have recovered him, he has scored eight goals in the League and two in the Cup and he has given a great performance.”
