Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United loanee, helped his team defeat Espanyol on Saturday afternoon to go to the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.

The real story was that Getafe finished the game with eight players, and the young Englishman was one of them sent for an early shower. Greenwood’s team fell 0–2 against Rayo Vallecano in their most recent match.

The Spanish football authorities overturned the ruling, saying it was too harsh, so the 22-year-old could play in the cup this weekend.

After an exciting encounter in which the Madrid side prevailed, their supporters began to fantasize of winning the cup.

Getafe’s season is extraordinary because of Greenwood’s inspiration. The team is now positioned seventh in La Liga and has made good progress in the cup. The Azulones’ best-ever Copa del Rey result came in 2007 and 2008 as runners-up. The trophy has never been won by them.

In the end, Luis Milla’s goal helped Getafe win 1-0. Despite failing to score, Greenwood’s performance was nonetheless exceptional.

After playing all ninety minutes, the young Englishman received a 6.8 on Sofascore.

Even while it fell short of the lofty expectations he set before Christmas, it was unquestionably a far better effort than what he gave against Rayo Vallecano.

Greenwood completed 25 out of 29 passes for an 86% pass accuracy. The player completed 100% of his long balls and touched the ball 50 times, contributing significantly to Getafe’s assault.

The forward did not have much luck in front of goal; two of his shots were blocked and he lost a great opportunity.

As he has been for many Spanish teams this season, the Bradford-born player proved to be a pain in Espanyol’s side by finishing five out of seven dribbles.

The United academy product isn’t particularly well-known for his defense, but he did play some excellent defense, taking the lead in eight of his thirteen ground battles.

Owing to his exceptional performance in Spain thus far, the young kid is attracting interest from a number of top teams, including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Real Sociedad.

His current squad, Getafe, is reportedly willing to spend £40 million to secure the player’s permanent contract.

In fifteen days, Greenwood will travel to play a midtable team, Osasuna, on the road. The attacker is keen to improve on his better performance from the previous weekend.
