The Ligue 1 team gave Mason Greenwood a special tag to wear.
The star player who used to play for Manchester United is off to a fast start since joining Marseille in the summer.
The French club paid around £30 million for him, and the Red Devils put in a 50% sell-on option in the deal.
In his first four games, Greenwood has scored five goals. Two of those goals came in a 3-1 win over Toulouse before the international break.
Because of that, he got to wear a badge to Marseille’s game against Nice on Saturday that no other Ligue 1 player could.
Greenwood, who is 22 years old, had the top scorer badge because he scored the most goals in the previous game.
It was first used at the beginning of the season. The white and gold design is called the S1 mark.
But Greenwood didn’t score to mark the event—it was the first time this season that he hadn’t scored—and Marseille won 2-0.
Even though he had a great start to the season, caretaker England manager Lee Carsley told him he couldn’t go back to the Three Lions.
He said, “Mason wasn’t a player we could trust to be honest.”
“I’m aware of how he’s doing but he wasn’t under consideration.”
The process to change Greenwood’s foreign registration to Jamaica is already under way, so he could switch his allegiances to Jamaica instead.
