Messi has only played in FOUR games, but he has already been named Major League Soccer’s Most Valuable Player.
The first time Messi came to the US was in July, when he joined Inter Miami. That year, he won the World Cup.
Messi used his magic to help Inter win their first prize, the Leagues Cup, not long after he joined the team. Ten goals were scored by him, and one more was set up by him.
But those weren’t regular season games in the MLS.
This 36-year-old player has been on David Beckham’s team for four regular season games.
In those games, he has scored one goal and set up two others.
Messi has been in the running for the Landon Donovan MVP award, which is given by the League. However, these numbers aren’t great and the sample size is small.
Fans were shocked by what they heard. One asked, “What kind of joke is that?”
“Stupid,” the second person said. “The person whose name was on that list.”
“While we’re at it, we might as well put him forward for an Emmy, Golden Globe, Oscar, and Grammy,” joked someone else.
Someone else said, “There is a better case for giving Taylor Swift NFL MVP than for giving Messi MLS MVP to a team that won’t make the playoffs.”
Inter will not make it to the post-season play-offs because they had a bad start to the season. Messi joined the team late.
Last year, Gareth Bale scored in extra time to help Los Angeles FC beat Philadelphia Union in the play-off final.
MLS teams can only pick two players to win the award.
You can vote until the end of the MLS regular season on October 23. The polls start on October 10.
It takes three things to vote, and each one is worth one-third of the total weight:
MLS players at the moment
Sports League Managers, Coaches, and Technical Leaders
Pick reporters from both local and national news outlets who lived and breathed the 2023 MLS regular season.
Messi was also up for Newcomer of the Year.
It is said that the famous Barcelona player wants to play for his old team, Newell’s Old Boys, again when his current deal ends in 2025.
