They beat Paraguay 1-0 in Buenos Aires on Thursday night, making it three wins in a row in World Cup qualifying.
The only goal of the game was scored by Nicolas Otamendi with a beautiful shot in the third minute after Rodrigo De Paul took a corner kick. Because regular leader Lionel Messi was on the bench, Otamendi took the captain’s armband and wore it for the first few minutes of the game.
After that, Messi came on as a replacement for Julian Alvarez in the 53rd minute. During his wait to play, Messi saw Otamendi running toward him to give him the shirt.
To tell the former Manchester City back to shut up, Messi waved his finger at him.
The friendly argument ended, though, with Messi reluctantly taking the armband from Otamendi. It was Otamendi’s job to put it on his captain’s arm.
There is a lot of evidence that Otamendi respects Messi. In fact, Otamendi has two tattoos of Messi on his body.
