Farias, a great player for Inter Miami, says that his wife gave up her spot at college so that he could play with Lionel Messi, and she wasn’t happy about it either.
It was only a few weeks after Messi’s arrival that the 21-year-old signed with the MLS team from the Argentine team Colon. Angi, his partner, wanted him to turn down the move at first so she could keep studying in Santa Fe. But she changed her mind when Facundo told her how much he wanted to share a locker room with the best player of all time.
“We had to move here, so she could study for her major,” Farias told The Athletic. “She meant to kill me!” I told her, “We’re going to play with Messi!”
As a child, Farias looked up to Messi and has been a big fan of the Barcelona legend ever since. Messi was born in Rosario, which is only an hour’s drive away. When he plays for Argentina again this week, after being called up for the first time, he’ll get to play with Messi again. The attacking player has had a good start to his career with Inter Miami. He has scored three goals in 12 games, starting nine of them. His team was out of the playoffs after losing to Cincinnati 1-0 on Sunday, but Farias will probably think of it as a good week if he plays his first game for his country against Paraguay tonight.Farias, who just became a dad, had a hard childhood in Argentina. As a child of 10, he lost his mother to cancer. Not long after that, his grandpa also died. The kid is determined to keep a positive attitude, though, and he says that going through such a hard time helped him become a football player, which was his dream. “To be honest, it’s been really hard,” he said. “The losses in my life have hit me hard.” But I think everything has made me strong enough to be here now.
