Federico Chiesa shone on his debut for Liverpool as Arne Slot’s side beat West Ham 5-1 in the Carabao Cup. Reds fans were impressed by the striker’s performance.
Chiesa joined Anfield at the start of the summer for a fee of just £12.5m. However, he had to wait a long time for his debut. After being left out of the squad for Liverpool’s first two games, Chiesa came off the bench in the 3-1 win over AC Milan in the Champions League.
He only played one minute in that game, but was given more minutes in the following game against Bournemouth, coming on as an 18-minute substitute. Slot decided Chiesa was ready to start against West Ham, and he quickly made an impression.
His volley found Jota in the box and the Reds equalised after going behind just minutes earlier. It was a great way to mark his first start. But aside from having a hand in his first goal for the club, Chiesa’s performance was also excellent.
Chiesa arrived at Anfield with high expectations. He has shown exceptional talent during his time in Serie A and that was evident against West Ham. He played well on the wing and linked up well with his team-mates.
Chiesa played 58 minutes before being replaced by Mohamed Salah, but he finished the game with a pass completion rate of 82%, won half of his challenges (2/4) and made two key passes. If his debut is any indication, his time on Merseyside will be an exciting one and fans are already excited about what they have seen.
Chiesa has made a positive impression on supporters after the game against the Hammers and they couldn’t contain their excitement on social media. One supporter was quick to point out that Chiesa cost just £12m, calling him a bargain. Others called him a “serious signing” despite the low price tag.
One fan praised Chiesa’s greatest strength, claiming his speed on the counter-attack was “electric”. Chiesa stir up the West Ham defence and one particular moment left fans in awe.
After receiving the ball on the left wing, he chipped the ball through Vladimir Coufal’s legs and into the West Ham penalty area. It showed what fans could expect from him and they loved it.
So impressed were Liverpool fans that one was even disappointed to see Chiesa taken off in the 58th minute, claiming they wanted to see more from him. But with a start like this, Chiesa surely has plenty to show for the future.
