On his personal page, Gary Lineker supports Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez to compete for the Premier League Golden Shoe this season.

 

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland won the Premier League Golden Boot last season after scoring 36 Premier League goals. Lineker believes Nunez will be one of the top contenders to challenge Haaland for this season’s top scorer title.

 

Nunez, 24, is yet to start a game for Liverpool this season. The Uruguay international featured in their 2-1 win over Newcastle United on Sunday. He came on as a substitute and scored a late brace to help Liverpool, down to 10 men, beat Newcastle at St James’ Park.

Lineker  wrote on social media: “I doubt Darwin Nunez will win the Golden Shoe this season.”

In this match against Newcastle, The Reds continued to receive a red card . Just minutes after Anthony Gordon put the hosts ahead, Van Dijk was shown a direct red card for a foul on Alexander Isak. Isak crossed into the box to catch Gordon’s pass, Van Dijk quickly appeared, cut him down and was sent off by referee John Brookes.
