Tom Heaton has revealed the player he thinks has the strongest spirit in the Manchester United dressing room.

The United goalkeeper has called four-time Champions League-winning defender Raphael Varane the most mentally strong player in the dressing room.

Heaton also revealed that whenever the Frenchman talks, the whole dressing room takes notice, even though he is not the captain of the club. That particular honor was recently awarded to Bruno Fernandes, after Harry Maguire was stripped of the captaincy.

Speaking on the club’s official website, Heaton said: “Of course, you can’t play for Manchester United without being mentally strong, I think that affects the whole team quite a bit.

“But I would choose Rapha given what he has done in the past at other clubs and his performance since walking through the door here.”

“He’s got a really strong spirit, the way he shows in all the games. He’s not a loud-mouthed person, but when he speaks, people usually listen.”
