Manchester United’s 25-man roster for the Premier League season has been announced, and at first glance, there are one or two notable absences.
Clubs are expected to submit an updated squad to the regulatory body once the transfer window ends, including any changes to jersey numbers. Together with all the other top-flight clubs, United have filed theirs.
Rasmus Hojlund, who cost £73 million, Kobbie Mainoo, and other young Reds players weren’t included on the main list. But rest confident that all three of them will be able to represent United this season in the league.
This is so that teams have flexibility when it comes to younger players under Premier League rules. Teams are able to submit an additional list of Under-21 players who can play but are not required to be on the official roster due to their age in addition to their 25-man squad for senior players.Clubs may name up to 25 players on their primary list, although they are only allowed to have a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players on their lists. In that regard, United are well within the limit.Players on the Under-21 list had to have been born on or after January 1, 2002, in order to qualify. However, Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri, who was included to the main roster, was born 12 days earlier than Garnacho, Mainoo, and Hojlund.
