Manchester United has announced that Mason Greenwood has decided to sign a season-long loan with Getafe.
After months of rumors, Greenwood and United mutually decided that the forward’s departure from Old Trafford was the wisest course of action for all sides.
The club launched an internal investigation against the 21-year-old after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges against him for attempted rape, violence, and controlling behavior in February.
Mason Greenwood has officially signed for La Liga team Getafe CF on a season-long loan, according to a statement from Manchester United.
“The change paves the path for Greenwood to start his career again away from Manchester United. Mason will continue to receive assistance from the club. After his proposed deal to Serie A team Lazio fell through, the transfer takes place just hours later. The Turkish Super Lig team Besiktas is also rumored to be interested in the English star.
Following a decision over Greenwood’s future, United released the following statement: “All those involved, including Mason, appreciate the difficulties with him restarting his career at Manchester United.
Therefore, it has been decided that doing so outside of Old Trafford would be most suitable. We will now work with Mason to make that happen.
“I want to start by saying that I realize people will judge me based on what they have seen and heard on social media, and I know people will think the worst,” Greenwood continued. I did not do the things I was accused of doing, I was exonerated of all accusations in February, and I was raised to understand that using violence or abusing others is unacceptable.
“However, I completely acknowledge that I committed mistakes and accept responsibility for my part in the events that gave rise to the social media post. I’m studying to understand my responsibilities to set a good example as a professional footballer, and I’m focused on the big responsibility of being a father, as well as a good partner.”
