The ailment, which was discovered over the weekend, is described as a “slight complaint” in a statement on the club’s website.

The midfielder will consequently miss Man United’s league games against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

Mount has taken on a deeper role alongside Casemiro this season, starting both of United’s Premier League games.

The Red Devils’ early-season struggles have led to some criticism of the £65 million Chelsea transfer, though.

Erik ten Hag’s team was fortunate not to surrender in a 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, and they also benefited from a controversial late penalty ruling.

However, luck was not on their side this past weekend as United suffered a discouraging 2-0 loss against Spurs.

The most likely candidate to replace Mount is Christian Eriksen because Scott McTominay appears to be out of favor and Mount is now expected to miss some time with the team.

That is unless the team can quickly complete a deal to acquire a midfielder before the weekend, something which is believed to be high on the wishlist of Ten Hag. Mount will now likely miss a third consecutive England camp due to injury.
