Real Madrid has revealed that Kepa Arrizabalaga hurt his thigh before Wednesday’s Champions League game at the Bernabeu against Braga.
The Spain player, who is on loan at Real Madrid from Chelsea, was picked to start in the European match against Braga in Madrid.
Unfortunately, the 29-year-old got hurt in warm-ups, so Andriy Lunin had to play in goal. The Ukrainian stopped a spot kick in the team’s 3-0 win.
Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid’s first-choice goalie, is still out with a long-term knee injury. This means that Lunin will start on Saturday in La Liga against Valencia.
“The adductor longus muscle in his right thigh” has been hurt, according to Real Madrid. The club has not said how long Kepa will be out, though.
“After the Real Madrid Medical Services checked out our player Kepa Arrizabalaga, they found that he has hurt the adductor longus muscle in his right thigh.” “Evolution pending,” said a message on the official website of the Spanish club.
Since Courtois hurt his ACL in the summer, Real Madrid signed Kepa as emergency cover.
The goalie has said more than once that he wants to sign a permanent deal with Real Madrid next summer. However, he would probably have to be happy being the second choice behind Courtois.
Kepa has played 13 times for the capital giants this season and kept six clean sheets. Now Lunin has the chance to show what he can do in goal.
Someone asked Ancelotti if Lunin could become the starting goalkeeper if he played well against Valencia while Courtois was out. Ancelotti replied, “There is always a debate.” Kepa has played very well, and Lunin has also played very well when called upon.
“Everyone can have a good moment or a less good moment and then the replacement has to be ready.”
According to the Real Madrid head coach, Fran Gonzalez will now play as the number two for the game against Valencia at the Bernabeu.
“Fran González will be the second goalkeeper tomorrow.” We have a lot of faith in him. It’s also going well for Lucas Canizares for Castilla, he said.
As of right now, Real Madrid is in second place in La Liga, two points behind winner Girona. Last weekend, they were tied 0-0 by Rayo Vallecano in the league.
