Sheikh Jassim and his group of Qatari investors have pulled out of the deal to buy Manchester United.
United was first put on the market in November 2022, and a lot of people were very interested in buying them.
Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, an investor from Qatar, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a British billionaire, became the top two candidates to buy the club. Each made several offers to buy United.
Sheikh Jassim is said to have dropped out of the race, and the sale process is now in its eleventh month.
“Sheikh Jassim and his Qatari consortium have pulled out of the process to buy Man United,” ESPN reporter Rob Dawson wrote on X.
“Sheikh Jassim and his team are not commenting officially but have informed the Glazers and Raine that they have withdrawn from the process.”Recently, talks have taken place, and it’s thought that the Glazers’ price for the club is too high.
The news was confirmed by Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, who wrote on X, “Can confirm Sheikh Jassim has withdrawn from the #MUFC process following final and advanced talks.”
“Group offered double the $3.2bn market valuation of the club and feel the Glazers valuation is outlandish.”
There were rumours that Ratcliffe was ready to make a big change to his offer for United, which could let the Glazers stay in charge.
Sky News said that Ratcliffe is thinking about buying some of the Glazers’ shares that were put on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). This would give him a 25% stake in United.
That would make sure that the Glazers stay in charge of the Premier League team.
Meanwhile, the Italian news site Tuttomercatoweb says that Sheikh Jassim is now targeting Inter Milan, one of the biggest teams in Serie A.
Inter came in second place in the Champions League last season, behind Manchester City. They are now owned by Steven Zhang, who is 31 years old and became the club’s youngest chairman in 2018.
But Zhang has to pay back the loan in May 2024, which has caused some to wonder about his long-term future at the club. The Raine Group is said to have been looking for possible buyers.
According to Team Talk, Tuttomercatoweb says that Sheikh Jassim has joined the race to buy the Serie A team.
