PAYING THE PENALTY: Man Utd 2 Everton 0: Fernandes and Rashford score from the penalty spot when Garnacho runs causing Everton to foul twice

If there is a bright side to every cloud, Everton’s is that they won’t be playing Alejandro Garnacho this season.

The bad news is that they might not have another chance to play with Manchester United’s brilliant Argentine next season because of the damage he has already caused.

Garnacho’s spectacular flying scissors kick in November put United on the road to a 3-0 victory over Goodison.

This time, two lunging legs were lured into two reckless challenges that resulted in two spot kicks by his dancing feet.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring from the penalty spot

Everton was eliminated despite having all the territory and opportunities they had. Both were expertly hammered into Jordan Pickford’s net in the lower corner.

Pickford got back up to chastise his defenders after Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, respectively, had converted either penalty.

The Everton custodian was perfectly entitled to do the same. The Goodison culpable person had been duped into doing it on both occasions.

Marcus Rashford doubled United's lead with a clinical penalty of his own

When Garnacho cut back inside, James Tarkowski was the first to clip his heel with a thrown foot. It was approaching from a mile away.

Then, unable to contain himself, Ben Godfrey put out a leg and stamped on the heel of the United winger as he danced across and into the area.

Once more, the Everton defender screamed in protest as referee Simon Hooper pointed to the spot, but this time the call was correct.

This time, Rashford took over after Fernandes hammered the first to Pickford’s left. He stumbled, stumbled, and then kicked in the opposite direction.

Tarkowski correctly heeded his advice following his brawl, but Godfrey lost it and received a yellow card to make matters worse.

You suspect that nothing will compare to the ear-bashing they received from an enraged Pickford back in the dressing room.

In all fairness, Vitalli Mykolenko made nearly as many saves as the Everton custodian, so things could have been much worse for him and the team.

It’s reasonable to say that he refuted the charges made when he used his trailing arm to block a low cross that came from a Garnacho cross. The blow would have been severe since he was regressing.

However, the incident in which he managed to escape after the ball struck BOTH of his arms as he was attempting to handle Casemiro’s chip was less comprehensible.

It was the most skillful handling we’ve seen at Old Trafford since the Super League Grand Final of the previous season. Everton may anticipate receiving proposals at any time from Hull KR and St Helens.

Though it was never really likely to matter, the manner the Toffees were spewing the openings they created made it clear.
