Phil Foden was named to the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for the first time. His amazing play helped Manchester City win a record-setting fourth straight Premier League title.
At the annual PFA awards on Tuesday, Foden was named to the team. The star was also named the PFA Player of the Year.
His inclusion came after a string of great performances last season, during which he scored 19 league goals in 27 games, including a brace against West Ham on the last day of the season to win Man City’s championship.
Players in the Premier League vote for Player of the Year, and the most popular candidates make up the Team of the Year.
Foden is joined by three other Man City teammates. Erling Haaland, who won the Golden Boot for hitting 27 goals last season, is picked for a second straight year.
Rodri, an important midfielder, has also been picked for the team for the second time. Kyle Walker, the captain of Man City and a right-back, has also been picked for the fourth time. Walker impressed in 47 games across all divisions last season.
Arsenal has five more players in the Team of the Year than winners Man City, even though they came in second place in the Premier League.
It is well known that the Gunners have a good defense. They only let 29 goals in last season.
This is why goalkeeper David Raya was added. Raya won the golden glove award for having 16 straight clean sheets in the league.
Along with Aaron Ramsdale, Raya has taken over as custodian from Ramsdale, who was on the team last year.
William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, Arsenal’s center-back pair, have been added. Saliba, who played every minute of the Premier League season, is back for the second year in a row.
The defense is finished off by Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool, who was picked fourth overall and will play behind Walker, Saliba, and Gabriel.
Rodri is joined in the middle by two Arsenal stars. Declan Rice gets the nod after a great first season at the club after moving from West Ham for £105 million.
Martin Odegaard, the leader of Arsenal, joins Rice. This is the second time in a row that the Norwegian has been picked.
Foden and Haaland from Man City are joined by Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa in the attack.
The English forward helped Aston Villa finish fourth and get into the Champions League by scoring 19 goals and setting up 16 others.
There is no room for Arsenal choice Bukayo Saka or Chelsea star Cole Palmer now that Watkins is on the team with Foden and Haaland.
Saka doesn’t cut, even though he scored 16 goals and set up nine others this season.
Last season, he scored the most goals for Arsenal in the Premier League. Only Odegaard had more assists in the team.
Palmer wasn’t picked for the team even though he was named the PFA Young Player of the Year.
The 22-year-old had a great first season at Stamford Bridge after coming there from Manchester City for £42.5 million. He scored 22 goals and set up 11 others, even though Chelsea had a mixed season.
